Boost for Local Athletes with 100 days to go to Games

Dale Farm announces major sports bursary

As the Dale Farm ‘2012 Dreams’ Sports Award reaches its pinnacle year, the local dairy business is offering one final boost of £5,000 to a local athlete striving for Olympic success.

The award, which is run in conjunction with the Mary Peters Trust, is specifically open to local athletes aiming to compete at Olympic and Paralympic Games level, and represents the biggest individual sporting bursary available in Northern Ireland – worth £5,000.

With past recipients including boxer Paddy Barnes, track athletes Ciara Mageean and Amy Foster, and judo star Lisa Kearney, all hoping to make an impact in London this summer – Dale Farm and Mary Peters are looking for a 2012 winner who can join this winning line up.

Brian Beattie, head of marketing at Dale Farm, commented: “With less than 100 days to go to the London Games the excitement is really building. We’re already extremely proud of our Dale Farm ‘2012’ Dreams Hall of Fame and hope to add a final name to the ‘podium’ to really get behind this summer.”

“As well as supporting NI’s elite athletes, earlier this year we launched a competition for schools to win a Dale Farm ‘2012 Dreams’ Sports Day including free sporting equipment from Podium4Sport, a special guest visit from Dame Mary Peters DBE, medals and refreshments. We have now selected our five lucky winners and are looking forward to a fun packed summer celebrating healthy and active lifestyles with local schools!”

Recognising and supporting young talent is so important and with the Games in 2012 almost upon us, this year’s award is more significant than ever.”

Nomination forms are available from 1st May from all sports governing bodies, the Mary Peters Trust or by logging on to www.dalefarm.co.uk. The deadline for entries is Friday 25th May. The Mary Peters Trust will carry out the selection process and the winner will be announced in June.
