A podium finish for young artist Shannon
Local pupil wins Dale Farm design competition
Shannon Simmons, a P7 pupil at St Paul’s Primary School, Irvinestown, has won a Northern Ireland-
wide school competition organised by Dale Farm, which invited children to design the official logo
for the Dale Farm 2012 Dreams Sport Award. Shannon’s winning design will be used on
ceremonial medals and all branded materials when the Dale Farm 2012 Dreams Sports
Award is presented to a local athlete in July. In addition, Dale Farm has presented Shannon with
£2,000 worth of sports equipment for her school, in partnership with sports equipment provider,
Podium4Sport.

The Dale Farm 2012 Dreams Sports Award is a high profile £5,000 bursary being offered by the local dairy company to a potential Olympian or Paralympic contender, which will be awarded in July. Schoolchildren entering the award’s design competition were encouraged to draw inspiration from the 2012 Games and the overall connection between nutrition and sport.
The design competition and sports awards are part of a wider programme by Dale Farm to inspire active lifestyles from grassroots, right through through to elite levels.
Brian Beattie, head of marketing for Dale Farm comments, “The Dale Farm 2012 Dreams Sports Award is about recognising and encouraging young local sporting talent and, on a wider level, inspiring children of all ages and abilities to get interested in the spirit of the 2012 Games by engaging them in activities like this design competition.
“We had a fantastic response to the competition, with hundreds of creative entries pouring in from schoolchildren across Northern Ireland. Congratulations go to our clear winner Shannon however; whose entry captured simply, yet imaginatively, the notions of activity, movement and achievement. Thanks to Shannon’s talent, we are delighted to be presenting St. Paul’s of Irvinestown with £2,000 worth of sports equipment, which we hope will further ignite the ‘Olympic spirit’ among pupils.”
