Double Dromona Success at International Cheese Show

On the back of a year of investment and growth, industry award wins and a highly acclaimed ‘Cheese Celebration’ at this year’s Balmoral Show, locally produced Dromona Cheese has now firmly confirmed its position as a ‘world class’ cheddar picking up two bronze awards at the internationally recognised Nantwich Cheese Show.

Produced by NI’s largest dairy business Dale Farm, using 100% local milk from the the 2,000 local dairy farmers who own the business, Dromona Mild Cheddar ‘cheesed off its competitors’ to pick up the awards in the ‘Single Irish Cheddar’ and ‘Grated Cheese’ categories.

This latest success follows a sterling period for NI’s largest indigenous cheese manufacturer, which earlier this year led by its 15-strong dedicated team of craft cheese makers picked up the 2009 NI Food and Drink Sector Training Excellence Award. This followed a £7 million investment in its Dromona Cheese making operation at Dunmanbridge near Cookstown, working towards creating a centre of excellence for cheddar cheese.

Speaking of the Nantwich Show success, head of marketing for Dale Farm Brian Beattie said,
“To receive this recognition for our products at one of the cheese world’s most prestigious events is very rewarding and it illustrates our commitment to maintaining high standards and our focus on craft cheese making, innovation and excellence.

“Cheese is a major consumer product category and, critically, a growing outlet for the 1 billion litres of local milk produced by our farmers each year. We are absolutely delighted to receive these accolades for our Dromona Cheese because it reflects the superior quality of the Dromona brand.”

The Nantwich International Cheese Show ran from the 28th-29th July 2009. The Show has been running for over 110 years and is the largest and most respected show of its kind involving rigorous judging standards.
